3rd Floor Weather Desk

For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated by weather. My mother often teased the perfect job for me would be as a singing meteorologist. At my current office, I work on the 3rd/top floor - where I have a skylight - unlike all of my co-workers who have interior offices. I also am the one on our staff whose job is affected by weather, as my traveling artists are often delayed by it. Therefore, over the last 8 years, I have shared many weather warnings and observations with my colleagues under the auspices of the "3rd Floor Weather Desk (3FWD)."

Next week, my office is being relocated to a 2nd floor, interior space. So today I sent my last official message from the 3FWD. I post it below for all to enjoy.

As one of the last official acts of the 3rd Floor Weather Desk, I thought I would advise you to the current Severe Thunderstorm Warning, in effect for the Champlain Valley until 8PM this evening. Please be safe and check the radar before heading out tonight.

...SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE ACROSS THE NORTH COUNTRY TODAY...

UPPER LEVEL LOW PRESSURE AND AN ASSOCIATED WEAK SURFACE FRONT ACROSS THE EASTERN GREAT LAKES THIS MORNING...WILL MOVE EAST AND AFFECT MUCH OF NORTHERN NEW YORK AND WESTERN NEW ENGLAND WITH SCATTERED SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY THIS AFTERNOON. THE COMBINATION OF INCREASING LOW LEVEL MOISTURE AND WARM AFTERNOON TEMPERATURES AHEAD OF THIS SYSTEM...WILL ALLOW THE ATMOSPHERE TO BECOME QUITE UNSTABLE THIS AFTERNOON.

AS A RESULT...A FEW OF THE STORMS HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO BECOME SEVERE THIS AFTERNOON INTO EARLY THIS EVENING...WITH STRONG DAMAGING WINDS AND LARGE HAIL. WHILE SHOWERS ARE LIKELY TO CONTINUE INTO THE OVERNIGHT HOURS...THE LOSS OF DAYTIME HEATING AND COOLER TEMPERATURES WILL END THE SEVERE THREAT LATER THIS EVENING.

In no event will 3FWD be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special or exemplary damages or lost profit resulting from any use or misuse of this data. And with all things in life, this forecast is subject to change without notice. Get used to it people.

All “live” observations through the “3FWD Skylight 1992” may be affected by green copper roof leak stains, trapped dead flies, snow pack, lack of daylight, and/or altitude (it is the 3rd floor after all).

I'd like to see a singing meteorologist. That would be impressive!
Haha... I like the disclaimer. When I was in college in Nebraska we had a little weather station on the roof of the science building, and we gave no more than a ten minute weather guarantee. :-)

Awww...another weather geek! lol...My brother-in-law, who is graduating high school next week, will be a meteorology student at Lyndon State next year. He is quite passionate about all things weather, often to the point where he drives the rest of us not-so-weather-crazy folks crazy (but we still love him)! ;) He has a weather site set up at http://www.freewebs.com/anthonysforecast/ if you care to visit!
